The calendar photo for the month September 2018 is featuring the sunset at the coastline of Flakstadøya near Ramberg. The image belongs to the German Norwegen Kalender, but is also part of the English Lofoten calendar. Flakstadøya is one of the islands of the Lofoten archipelago, which I reached by bike after some weeks of cycling during my Scandinavian adventure.
Memories of a beautiful day
The day before we had cycled through some heavy clouds to get up to Bodø. Shortening the cycling by taking the bus from Ørnes. This proved to be a wise decision, as we couldn’t spot another place to stay overnight on the 180km between Ørnes and Bodø. We would have ended up with some wild camping again. Not that I would have been completely against it, but if I do it again, I would like to have decent supplies of food and water too!
The weather cleared while we were on the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes and from there on we experienced one of the most beautiful rides of the tour. A construction site forced us into a one-hour long break until we were allowed to cycle on with a queue of cars and busses behind us. While both Solo and I tried to speed it up, so we would not become an annoyance for those behind us, I managed to crash. Now I was the annoyance I did not want to be in the first place. But everybody behind us was patient – not that there was another way out – and I was lucky enough to escape with just a scrub wound. Nothing important. Once we had left the construction site behind us and the cars had taken over, we had the road pretty much to ourselves. Thankfully Solo had the patience to wait for me when I asked for all those photo stops of the day. He even added some more. After dinner, we went out for some evening photography before retreating to our comfortable room for the night.
